OneRepublic releases new song a week before upcoming album: this is what 'Hurt' sounds like
'Artificial Paradise', the band's sixth album, is coming out on July 12
The band that has given us hits like Counting Stars , Secrets or Apologize brings us a new project. Hurt is the new single from OneRepublic , which comes as the last preview of their upcoming album, Artificial Paradise . The sixth and highly anticipated studio album from Ryan Tedder's group will be released on July 12.
With the release of the song, the official tracklist that will be part of the album has also been published, which includes 18 songs. Among them are her releases from recent years: West Coast, I Ain't Worried , Runaway, Sunshine, Mirage, Nobody, I Don't Wanna Wait , with David Guetta, or Fire , the anthem for Euro 2024.
To liven up the week of waiting until the release of the album, the boys from OneRepublic have given us a sneak peek of Hurt . In this song they tell us about the possible beginning of a romantic relationship, in which there could be emotional complications.
Phrases like "If you want my love, then babe, I'm gonna make you hurt for it" show us that the parties in the relationship may still have emotional wounds to heal, and if they don't deal with them, they could hurt the other person.
Despite such a deep message, the song has a lively and energetic beat, with a distinct pop-rock feel. Ryan Tedder , the band's frontman, is a three-time Grammy Award winner for Album of the Year, due to his production credits on Adele's albums 21 and 25 , and Taylor Swift's 1989. And the producer and songwriter knows well how to create a commercial hit. The song has a very catchy chorus, reminiscent of the fresh and colorful sound the band had on their third album, Native (2014).
What we know about Artificial Paradise
As we have mentioned, along with the announcement of the new single, the American band has also revealed the official tracklist for Artificial Paradise . An album that has been in the works for two years, but whose birth goes back much further.
" Artificial Paradise technically started with a song called West Coast , which we started in a hotel in New Orleans in 2016," the band explained in an Instagram post. "That song spawned a few other songs over the last eight years that didn't make much sense together, but which we kept collecting and writing." The track they're talking about finally came out in 2022, months after the release of their last album Human , in 2021.
"The new album started to take shape, and many of these songs were written over the past two years, as we traveled through a world full of stories and artificial paradises: through the world and lives that people broadcast digitally," the statement announcing the album continued.
With all this paradigm shift and the ever-changing technological world, the phrase “artificial paradise” kept coming to their minds. They felt that this expression was similar to the world of today, for better or worse. And in the midst of all this artificiality, OneRepublic tries to find authentic connection, true love, and a real story.
